May 2025 proclaimed as Respect Life Month.

Dear Members and Donors,

In late November, I sent our annual letter to the Minister of Justice, the Hon. Tim McLeod, with a request to have the month of May 2025 proclaimed as Respect Life month. I have not yet received a response. Bear in mind that all previous requests have been denied without reason.

On January 7, I sent the same request to the Minister of Parks, Culture & Sport, the Hon. Alanna Ross, on the advice that our work might better fit under the jurisdiction of this department (i.e. building a culture of respect for life).

I also have been advised that if our members were to call their MLA (only if your MLA is with the Sask Party) and the Minister expressing their support of this request, it may help in their decision to grant our request. Would you please do this? Following is the link that gives the contact information for each MLA.

Conscience Rights

The Knights of Columbus with the support of Campaign Life Coalition Sask and Sask Pro-Life Association encourage you to contact your MLA (SK Party) and the Minister of Health (if your MLA is not on the government side of the Legislature) requesting that legislation protecting the conscience rights of health care providers be protected. This is an important issue and we need to act on it now.

Following is a sample letter that you may use with relevant changes made to address your MLA and the Minister of Health. A list of MLA contact information is available here: MLA Contact Information

Sample Letter

Dear MLA:

I am writing to ask you to draft and support legislation to entrench the protection of heath care professionals from having to act against their conscience.

This bill would make participation in any medical procedure including assisted suicide, gender changes or abortion, voluntary. It would overrule any policy instituted by a regulatory body requiring a doctor, nurse, or other health professionals to participate in these or any other procedure to which they would object.

As a voter in your constituency, I strongly believe that no one should be forced to participate, either directly or indirectly, in a procedure that would contravene one’s conscience. Additionally, no one should be discriminated against because of their constitutionally protected right.

Please take whatever legislative steps are required to ensure that health care professionals are protected based on their conscience, faith, or religious beliefs.

Thank you,

The International Day of the Unborn Child

Is an annual commemoration of unborn fetuses, observed as a day of opposition to abortion, on March 25. It was established by Pope John Paul II to coincide with the Feast of the Annunciation. John Paul II viewed the day as "a positive option in favour of life and the spread of a culture for life to guarantee respect for human dignity in every situation."

In 1993, El Salvador became the first nation to officially celebrate what was called a Day of the Right to Be Born.[1] Subsequently other countries have initiated official celebrations for the unborn, such as Argentina with the Day of the Unborn in 1998, and Chile with Day of the Conceived and Unborn, Guatemala with the National Day of the Unborn, and Costa Rica with the National Day of Life Before Birth, all in 1999.[1] Nicaragua began observing the Day of the Unborn Child in 2000, the Dominican Republic in 2001, Peru in 2002,[1] Paraguay in 2003,[2] the Philippines in 2004,[3] Honduras in 2005,[4] Ecuador in 2006,[5] and Puerto Rico in 2018.[6][7] Chile began observing the Day of the Unborn Child and Adoption in 2013.[8] The promotion of the International Day of the Unborn Child was endorsed by the Knights of Columbus.

Saskatchewan Pro-Life Association supports parental consent.

Pro-Life association issues statement in support of new parental inclusion and consent policies announced by the Saskatchewan government by John Cairns

REGINA - While there has been some opposition rallies held against new parental inclusion and consent policies in Saskatchewan, one group has expressed its support: the Saskatchewan Pro-Life Association.

The group representing 3,500 members has issued a statement supporting the government’s move on August 22 to bring in the policy, which the Association believes “restores the rights of children and youth to be protected by their parents.”

“Requiring parents/guardians to be informed about the sexual health education curriculum and have the option to decline their children's participation will ensure family values are respected and foster greater communication between school and home,” the Pro-Life association stated in a release on August 29. “Parental permission for name or pronoun changes for students under 16 will safeguard them from undue pressure at school by peers, teachers, or third-party presenters to adopt a gender non-conforming identity. Pausing school involvement with third-party organizations whose agendas may not align with those of parents or curriculum outcomes is a reasonable and necessary measure.”

The organization says the new policies are “consistent with recent moves by other jurisdictions in Canada and around the world and recognize that parents are the experts on their own children and that they play the most important role in their education." They called the Ministry of Education policies “a step in the right direction.”

“We are grateful that Minister (Dustin) Duncan listened to parents regarding their concerns not only about gender and sexual diversity policies, but about sexually explicit materials being presented to students in Saskatchewan schools. Respecting parents as primary caregivers for their children and recognizing that parents are the strongest advocates for their children is something that should never be in question,” said Saskatchewan Pro- Life Association President, Frances Stang in a statement.

While in support of the policy changes, the SPLA is calling for additional measures They want to see the government permanently ban the ARC Foundation and SOGI 1 2 3 from Saskatchewan schools “because they have demonstrated a distinct bias in the sexual health arena.” The SPLA is also calling for the age of consent for medical and surgical transitioning to be raised to 18.

“How can it be a good thing for a minor child to step onto the transgender track leading to medical and surgical interventions without a parent's consent?” Stang said in a release. “How can we allow this for young people who are not even allowed to vote, whose brains will continue to develop into their mid-20s? It is only reasonable to reflect this legal and developmental reality in our legislation.”
